A motorbike owner who was left needing surgery after a crash is “heartbroken” that his missing moped has been found “burnt out” and “stripped of parts”
Morgan De-Holland’s SYM MASK disappeared from where it was locked up in Cromwell Road, Queenborough, within hours of him smashing to the pavement at the roundabout which connects Whiteway Road and Cromwell Road with the main road.
The Co-op supermarket supervisor had come off his motorbike on his way to work around 1.45pm Saturday, January 4, and was left needing surgery after shattering his right thigh bone in two places.
Police attended the scene and locked up the bike while the 30-year-old, who lives in Sheerness, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham.
However, when his dad, who did not want to be identified, went to recover the vehicle around 8pm he could not find it.
Morgan reported the suspected theft to the police who began an investigation.
However, at around 12pm on Thursday, January 9, a family friend told Morgan’s dad that the bike had been found in a wreck.
He went down to the scene and found that it had been “stripped of parts” and “burnt out”.
Morgan told KentOnline that he was “heartbroken” hearing the news.
He said: “We used the unique vehicle identification number (VIN) and found it was my bike.
“I am not happy at all, as I was hoping it would have been returned. I am just hoping the insurers will pay for it now.”
Morgan, who is using crutches to get around, was discharged from the hospital the same day and is staying with his parents in Queenborough.
Doctors told him it would be around six weeks before he can put weight on his injured leg.
While Morgan says the pain has eased he is still on painkillers including paracetamol and morphine.
There was an outpouring of support for him on social media after KentOnline published Morgan’s story.
Morgan said the support was “really nice to have” and he recognised a lot of people as customers of the Queenborough Co-op.
