Free Be Bright Be Seen keyring giveaway with kmfm and KCC a huge success

Thousands of free key rings will help youngsters be more visible on the streets of Kent this winter thanks to the overwhelming success of our Be Bright Be Seen campaign.

We have been overwhelmed with requests for the reflectors with more than 150,000 of you asking for a batch for your school, community group or sports club.

With the help of kmfm and KCC's Road Safety Team, thousands and thousands of discs are now being packaged up and sent out to schools and organisations.

More than 20,000 will be donated across the county.

The campaign, and keyring giveaway, is there to remind families how important it is to Be Bright Be Seen during the darker months and the important role that what you wear can play in keeping you safe.

And figures released by Kent County Council's Road Safety Team confirm that the morning rush hour between 8am and 8.59am and the after-school period 3pm to 5.59pm saw the greatest number of pedestrian casualties under the age of 16.

Whether you and your children are walking to and from school, going to an after school activity or sports club, making a quick dash to the shops or someone is heading out to walk the dogs - now is the time of year to take some additional precautions when it comes to road safety.

During foggy and overcast days pedestrians and cyclists are advised to wear something brightly coloured to make them more visible to drivers.

And at night it should be reflective so that it can be picked up by vehicles and lights on the road. This could be anything from armbands and stickers to reflective vests or tabards.

Rob Wills, Head of Broadcasting and Programme Manager at kmfm, said: "Thank you to everyone who applied for our Be Bright Be Seen reflective keyrings this year, it was a record breaking amount of requests. We are now in the process of sending 20,000 of them out to randomly chosen applicants.

"It’s really important that children stay seen in winter. With darker mornings on the walk to school and the walk home being the same, these reflective discs can help drivers see them to stay visible."
