East Kent Paedophile who infected child with HIV told he many never be released

A sex fiend who raped a child leaving her infected with HIV, was today jailed for life.

The paedophile from east Kent can’t be named to protect the identity of his victim.

Judge Adele Williams told him: “You have given your victim a life sentence."

The man – a former delivery driver – will now have to serve at least 10 years before he can be considered for parole.

But the judge told him: “Know this... this is a life sentence and you may never ever be released.”

“You have shown no remorse, no understanding of the effects of passing on this virus. I consider that you are a danger to the public, who will feel revulsion at your crimes” - Judge Adele Williams

The victim, who is now in her 20s, told the judge in her Victim Impact Statement: “The defendant stole my innocence and my childhood and given me a life-long illness.”

The 59-year-old befriend the girl’s mother some years ago and moved into the family home.

Prosecutor Christopher May told Canterbury Crown Court the pervert then manipulated the relationship so he could sleep with her.

She revealed he ignored her weeping pleas to leave her alone and carried out the sex attacks.

At one point the girl became pregnant and he forced her to lie to her mother, saying it was because of a one-night stand with a boy.

Mr May added: “She had a termination. He made her get one. He told her she couldn’t keep it as everyone would know it was his.

“His behaviour towards her was particularly possessive. He was not only sexually interested in her but was demanding of her time and attention.

“He started grooming her and would take her everywhere. At first she thought that it was just him getting to know her and that it must be normal.

“But it started to get a bit too much. When they were sitting watching the TV he would ask her to move closer,” the prosecutor added.

The court heard it was only when the victim became pregnant with a child from a boyfriend that she went for medical checks.

It was then doctors delivered the devastating news she had tested positive for HIV – fortunately her child is not infected.

Her attacker initially denied having the virus – but tests later showed his victim’s virus was from an almost identical strain.

She sat in the public gallery with family and friends to watch her rapist receive his life sentence.

He sat passively in the dock a few feet away as the court heard how he had changed his pleas to guilty on the first day of the trial as she was about to give evidence.

The judge said she accepted that at the time he didn’t know he was infected with the virus but added: “But that was the consequences of your actions.”

The victim said she was now on medication for life and needed to attend hospital regularly for health checks.

The judge added: “You have shown no remorse, no understanding of the effects of passing on this virus. I consider that you are a danger to the public, who will feel revulsion at your crimes.”

He admitted four rapes and two charges of indecent assault – involving two victims – and will only be released when the parole board consider he poses no threat to children.
