Pair in baby snatch bid

POLICE in Ramsgate are looking for a woman in her 50s who tried to snatch a six-month-old baby from her mother.

The incident happened shortly after 1pm on Wednesday. An 18-year-old woman was walking along Dumpton Park Drive pushing her daughter in her buggy.

A car, believed to be a blue Ford Escort estate, pulled up alongside her and a woman in her late fifties got out. The woman approached the young mother and it appeared she tried to pull the baby from the buggy.

The teenager pulled the buggy back towards her and ran off.

The woman has been described as white, in her late fifties and 5ft 2in tall. She wore a red and black chequered shawl around her head, a thin white coat and dark blue trousers.

The Ford Escort was being driven by a bald man, thought to be in his mid-sixties. A police spokesperson said: “This is a rather unusual incident and we feel people in the area at the time must have seen it.

“There is a bus stop close to where the incident occurred plus the victim remembers seeing a Subaru Impreza in the area, the occupants of which may also have seen something”.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact DC Neil Watford on 01843 222053.
