People in Kent took the time to applaud the hardworkers at the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic from the safety of their homes this evening.

In Borstal Rochester, people applauded and shouted support from their flat windows and front doors.

People in Folkestone also took part in the national event and clapped and cheered support for hospital workers.

The footage below was taken in Shorncliffe Heights.

It was a similar picture in Sittingbourne, on the Sonora Fields estate.

A picture encouraging people to take part in the clap for our carers was shared widely on social media.

Several landmarks across the county also lit up to show their support, including Rochester Cathedral and the clock tower in Herne Bay.

The Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury was also lit up this evening.

A message on its Facebook page read: "A small gesture of appreciation for our great NHS and all who work in it."

Spain, France and the Netherlands have already taken part.
