Police appeal after street attack

A 30-year-old man suffered head injuries when he was hit with a street sign by a gang of up to 12 men. The victim was crossing at the junction of Dane Road and Approach Road in Margate, shortly after midnight on Saturday when the group approached him.

A witness saw one of the men hit the victim several times across the face with a plastic roadworks barrier.

He then fell to the ground, and was hit with the barrier again and then kicked. He was then left unconscious in the road. Several witnesses say they saw up to 12 men, aged around 19 or 20, run off in the direction of Dane Park.

The victim was taken to the Queen Mother Hospital suffering from head and facial injuries. A police spokesman said: ”From what we have been told so far, this seems to be a completely unprovoked attack. A number of people have come forward, but we would like to hear from anyone else who can shed any light on who did this and why."
