Ramsgate shop worker's face slashed in raid

A shop worker was taken to hospital after he was slashed across the face by a knife-wielding robber.

Police after now hunting the violent thieves who raided West Dumpton Stores in Ramsgate.

The incident happened just after 7.30pm on Monday when two mask-wearing men walked in.

One grabbed a customer while the other threatened the shop assistant and his wife.

The man with the weapon then struck out at the male shop assistant.

He suffered serious slash injuries to his left cheek and needed treatment at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital at Margate.

The victim was also due to see specialist plastic surgeons this week.

The two men escaped with £300 in cash and £200-worth of cigarettes.

Det Insp Tracy Anstis, who is leading the inquiry, said: "This was a totally unprovoked attack and disturbing in the unusual degree of violence used.

"The three people in the store at the time have obviously been affected by this incident, both physically and mentally.

"We are asking for the community's help to catch these two men.

"The cigarettes stolen were Lambert and Butler 10s in silver packets and Blue JPS stamped with a 'special price' of £4.83.

"Does this mean something to you or do you know someone who has surprisingly come into money overnight?

"The smallest detail could make a big difference to our inquiry."
