Riddle of death-crash driver

WHY Veronica Adrienne drove into another car, killing her outright, remains a mystery.

Mrs Adrienne, 42, from Charlton, London, had been to Leysdown on the Isle of Sheppey to collect some possessions.

It was known she had not slept the night before her Ford Fiesta drove into the path of a Ford Maverick 4x4 on Sheppey Way, near Kingsferry Bridge.

Coroner Roger Sykes was also told that she suffered from epilepsy, there were traces of amphetamine in her blood and police found 525 milligrams of amphetamine sulphate in her handbag.

Witnesses said they had seen the red Fiesta parked in a lay-by, with the driver slumped at the wheel as if unconscious and someone else saw it weaving from side to side as if the driver was intoxicated.

The driver of the Maverick was not seriously hurt in the crash on April 1.

Coroner Roger Sykes recorded a verdict of accidental death at Thursday's inquest. He said: "There is no reason to believe she intended to crash the car. This was an accident although the cause cannot be established."
