London Broncos coach Rob Powell gave Priestfield the thumbs up after his side turned in one of their most encouraging displays of the season.

With just two wins all season the Broncos were expected to struggle against high-flying Hull but they coped well against a side backed by more than 1,000 travelling fans.

Just two points separated the sides at the end of Sunday’s Super League clash after a close 14-12 contest.

"It worked alright and looked pretty good," said Powell, on the club’s latest venture away from their Stoop base in west London.

"I spoke to some of Gillingham’s staff and I thought it was a good joint to play at. It is a good rugby league-type venue, nice and tight ground and the fans right on it.

"Hull always bring good fans in good numbers and make it a good atmosphere. As a venue and a place it worked well. I said that all the way through it would be.

"I know that there is a lot of rugby league in this area already, with Medway Dragons and lots of things going on there, and they had a lot of people here."

The Broncos look set to be staying in London for the time being but Powell would welcome another visit to Kent.

"Yes, no problems for me," he said. "I thought it worked well and it was a decent, healthy crowd.

"I don’t know long-term what the club’s plans are for where they want to be and what they want to do but I think as an experiment it seemed to feel pretty good."
