Robber pulls knife on shopkeeper

A MAN with a knife demanded money from a woman shopkeeper in a robbery at Margate. The 20-year-old victim had opened the toy shop in Upper Dane Road when a man entered the store and questioned her about a toy he claimed had been left for collection.

The woman checked but no goods had been left. He then asked to borrow her telephone, made a call and then grabbed a child’s trolley that he suggested was the item for collection.

When the shopkeeper said the trolley was not his, the man pulled a kitchen knife from underneath his jacket and demanded money. She threw her bag to him and he took the purse containing £14 and ran off. She followed him into Hengist Avenue but lost sight of him near the junction with Fitzroy Avenue.

The robber is in his mid 20s, slim, with short dark brown hair. He wore a black puffa jacket. Any witnesses to the robbery that happened between 9am-9.20am on Saturday should telephone detectives on 01843 222196.
