Search for 'Clare' as assault case is re-opened

DETECTIVES have launched a new investigation into a crime first reported two years ago.

Officers are trying to trace a woman called ‘Clare’ in connection with an alleged assault in Ramsgate between 2.30am and 3.30am on March 8, 2002, when an ambulance crew found an unconscious 44-year-old man at the harbour.

Police officers attended the scene following a call from a woman called Clare who called them from a mobile phone, the number for which is now invalid.

The victim, formerly of Broadstairs but now living abroad, suffered a fractured skull and cheekbone. He recalls being attacked by a ‘well-groomed’ man aged in his mid to late twenties.

He was of average build, had fair hair and wore light clothing. Investigations carried out at the time did not locate any witnesses. Officers are keen to hear from anyone who remembers the incident and, in particular, are keen to speak to ‘Clare’.

The investigating officer is acting Det Sgt Sue Groombridge and she can be contacted on 01843 222192.
