A huge search was launched in the Channel today for a missing person thought to have fallen overboard.

The search, led by France-based Cap Gris Nez Coastguard, follows a report that someone was in the water, in the middle of the Channel.

The man was believed to have fallen from P&O's Pride of Calais ferry but investigations established all passengers were accounted for.

Two ships nearby, another P&O ferry the Pride of Canterbury and SeaFrance Berlioz, also had all their passengers aboard.

The search has now been called off.
