A security guard was attacked as he refilled a petrol station cash machine.

He was assaulted at the Lychgate service station just off the Thanet Way, near Dargate on the London-bound carriageway.

It happened at 2.30pm on Wednesday, around 15 minutes after he and another guard had topped up the machine. He was checked over by an ambulance crew at the scene and suffered a minor injury.

Police have issued descriptions of two offenders. The first was wearing a three-quarter length dark jacket, a dark hoodie underneath with the hood up, dark trousers and dark shoes. He was also wearing large dark gloves.

The second offender was wearing a light-coloured jacket with a white hoodie underneath, also with the hood up. He was wearing yellow gloves.

Det Sgt Shelley Chantler said: “A security guard suffered an unprovoked assault. No money or items were stolen.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area or driving past at the time.”
