A prolific offender has been jailed for four years after grooming a teenage girl on the internet before sexually assaulting her.

Daniel Joslin used seven identities to contact his victim on social networking sites including Facebook.

The 30-year-old, of Station Road East, Canterbury, befriended the girl before this escalated to sexual activity.

He then emailed his victim, from the Maidstone area, more than 100 photos and films of child abuse.

Joslin, who has a string of previous convictions for sex offences, was already serving a sexual prevention order.

He was jailed at the Old Bailey today after admitting two sexual grooming charges, engaging in sexual activity with a child, four charges of distributing indecent images of children and breaching a sexual prevention order.

Joslin had attempted to use many false names to evade identification, but the net closed in on him when the victim's mother reported what happened to police.

Officers then traced his computer and social networking accounts.

DC Michael Brown, from Kent Police, said: "Joslin is a prolific offender who has groomed and assaulted a vulnerable child.

"He has a history of avoiding the consequences of his actions, and I am pleased that we have been able to bring him to justice.

"This was a meticulous investigation carried out by the Child Exploitation Investigation Team, which was able to link Joslin to the various false identities he used to carry out his offences.

"This is an example of the determination of Kent Police to seek out those who seek to harm children, regardless of the methods used by offenders to avoid capture."

Joslin will also serve an extended licence of five years when he is released from prison and a sexual offences prevention order will restrict his access to children and the internet.
