home after the car crash

A Sturry pensioner had a rude awakening when a
car smashed through a wall into his garden pond.

Reg Hayward faces a repair bill of £2,500
after a VW Golf crashed through a nine-inch solid garden
wall.

Mr Hayward, 65, who lives on the corner of
Island Road and Fairview Gardens, was woken immediately last
Thursday morning, by the glare of the car’s headlights through his
front window.

He said: “There was just an almighty thud and
I looked out to see the car half in the pond and resting against a
silver birch tree in my front garden.”

This was not the first time a car had crashed in the road.

The father of two, who has lived in Island
Road for more than 18 years, said more needs to be done to control
traffic in the area.
