The search is on for the county’s shining business stars.

The second annual Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBA) are formally launched on Thursday night.

More than 100 business people from across Kent and Medway are expected to attend a special event at Bradbourne House, East Malling, marking the countdown to the gala presentation dinner on July 1. The awards honour exceptional businesses, operations, organizations and people. Winners will take home a handsome glass trophy crafted by Maidstone artist Annie Ross.

Winners and finalists from last year’s KEiBA will explain the secrets of their success and how they defied recession and credit crunch. Graham Webb, haircare entrepreneur and chairman of judges, will spell out the benefits of entering this prestigious contest which is staged and produced by Kent County Council and the KM Group.

Kevin Lynes, KCC Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development said: "The KEiBA awards are an excellent opportunity for companies to enter and promote their business to clients and celebrate with their staff. We had a great response last year and I hope many more companies will enter.

"It is also another opportunity to celebrate Kent’s successes as a vibrant place for businesses of all sizes. I am sure it has been a difficult year for many. But this is a chance to take notice of companies that have met that challenge and despite the economic circumstances, have got on and done well."

Geraldine Allinson, chairman of the KM Group, said the inaugural awards had revealed many success stories and organizations that had prospered despite difficult economic times.

"I would urge as many companies as possible to enter KEiBA," she said. "It is a great competition and being a finalist brings lustre to any business."

Big name sponsors include Brachers, The Kent Foundation, VisitKent, GSE Group, Institute of Directors, Heart, Kent Film Office, Vertex Law, Headley Brothers and Southeastern.
