Rare albino squirrels spotted at Leybourne Lakes Country Park

Not one, but two rare albino squirrels have been spotted enjoying the Kentish countryside.

Just a handful of the spectacular creatures are thought to reside in the UK, with your chances of seeing one pegged at just 50,000/1.

The pair were caught on camera at housing development Leybourne Chase, near West Malling, over the weekend.

With their distinctive red eyes and bright bushy tails, the animals are believed to live in small colonies.

There have been numerous sightings across the county in recent years, in areas like Maidstone, Herne Bay and Hartley, near Dartford.

Grey squirrels can also be pale or white in colour without being albino - though this is less rare, and their eyes appear normal.

KMTV's Joe Coshan has been to find out more about the phenomenon, and even caught a glimpse of the animals himself.
