Tesco recalls All Butter Croissant packs over fears they may contain almonds

Tesco is recalling some of its pastries over fears they may contain nuts not listed on the packet.

The supermarket giant, together with the Food Standards Agency, has issued an urgent recall notice and do not eat warning for frozen croissants that may have nuts in them because of a 'packaging error'.

The Frozen All Butter Croissants, which come in packs of six and weigh 225g, in some cases could instead have been mistakenly packaged with croissants containing almonds instead, which could pose a huge health risk to someone with a nut allergy not expecting the ingredient to be inside the packet.

In a warning published on the FSA website it says: "Tesco is recalling Tesco Frozen All Butter Croissants 6 pack because it may contain almonds (nuts) not mentioned on the label.

"Due to a packaging error some packs may have been incorrectly packed with Tesco Frozen Almond Croissants, which contain almonds (nuts). This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to almonds (nuts)."

Tesco, which was among the supermarkets earlier this month forced to recall cooked chicken products over salmonella fears, says alongside recalling the croissants and placing notices in stores to warn customers about the error, it has also contacted the relevant allergy support organisations which will also be able to tell their members about the urgent recall.

The advice to customers who have bought the croissants, and who have an allergy to almonds or nuts, is to not eat them and instead return them to the Tesco store where they were bought for a full refund. You can read the full warning here.
