Sainsbury's and Waitrose issue Food Standards Agency recall warning for frozen cooked prawns which may contain undercooked food

Two supermarkets have recalled frozen prawns over fears that undercooked seafood has been packaged with cooked items.

Waitrose was the first to call back bags of its frozen Cooked and Peeled Jumbo King Prawns alongside its Essential Frozen Cooked King Prawns. The retailer says it has done so because their is a 'possible presence of raw, uncooked prawns' that make the food unsafe to eat.

Sainsbury's has since followed suit and told shoppers with bags of its Cooked and Peeled Frozen Large King Prawns in their freezer to not eat the seafood, which may also contain uncooked or partially cooked seafood alongside the cooked prawns. Both the Sainsbury's 180g and 400g bags are affected by the recall with best before dates ranging between May and October 2023 while Waitrose's 200g bags with best before dates up to and including June 2023 are being called back alongside 250g bags with dates up to and including February 2024.

Both supermarkets have told shoppers not to eat the items if they have them at home but instead return them to their nearest store for a full refund.

Notices in stores, says the Food Standards Agency, are also being placed in supermarket aisles to alert customers to the possible risks.
