Teenager has serious head injury after crash

A 13-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a car on the old Thanet Way.

Emergency services including police and Kent Air Ambulance were called to the incident close to Homebase in Herne Bay at about 5.15pm yesterday.

No other vehicles were involved and police said no offences were committed.

He was flown to King's College Hospital in London by Kent Air Ambulance with his mum to receive specialist treatment by neurosurgeons. He also suffered from shock and was sedated at the accident scene.

Sue Elvidge was driving home at the time of the incident and was three cars behind the scene.

She said: "I was just shaking it’s a horrible feeling to know a child has been hit and I just hope he is going to be ok. Seeing something like that is really upsetting."
