One of the most important roles in the British forces' efforts in Afghanistan is carried out by Kent troops.

Soldiers from the Second Battalion of the Royal Gurkha Rifles based in Folkestone ensure the safety of the Combat Logistics Patrol (CLP).

It carries vital supplies to bases across Helmand Province but is often a target of Taliban attacks and mines.

The Gurkhas from the Force Protection Unit clear its path of mines and see off enemy attacks.

Our reporter Chris Price followed the Gurkhas on a journey with the CLP across northern Helmand from Musa Qal'eh's district centre to FOB Edinburgh.
