Thieves try to crack cashpoint

Police are investigating an attempted break-in today at a wall-mounted cashpoint machine outside Westgate railway station.

Officers were called to Station Road after an automatic alarm was set off shortly after 2.30am.

A police spokeswoman said: "An attempt had been made to tamper with the Nationwide automatic cash machine.

"Some bricks had been removed from around the equipment but nothing was stolen.

"The scene was sealed so that a daylight search and forensic investigation could be carried out."
