Kent Politics Podcast: Reform crisis at County Hall and special guest Naushabah Khan MP

In a packed episode of the Kent Politics Podcast this week, we hear the latest from Reform UK’s County Hall civil war and welcome special guest Naushabah Khan MP.

It’s been another eventful week at KCC with councillors expelled and a defiant leader, Cllr Linden Kemkaran, dismissing calls for her to quit.

The drama started two weeks ago with the leaking of a video showing angry scenes at a meeting of senior Reform councillors.

With almost daily developments, the fallout has proven to be the party’s biggest headache since it took power six months ago.

Meanwhile, Gillingham and Rainham MP Ms Khan takes a potshot at political opponents at Westminster - including fellow Kent MP Katie Lam.

She accuses her - along with Tory Robert Jenrick and Reform’s Sarah Pochin - of embracing right-wing rhetoric for political purposes.

Saying “you have to call out such statements”, she said it’s a mistake to ignore behaviour which forces people to “pick a side and hate your neighbours”.

The former Medway councillor also talks about Labour’s current polling woes, explaining that progress is being made on many fronts despite the poor state of affairs they inherited.

The weekly podcast brings together Simon Finlay, Robert Boddy, and Dan Esson, who work for the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Simon covers Kent County Council, while Robert reports on Medway Council and Dan specialises in borough and district councils.

News editor Nikki White talks about what’s happening with the county’s MPs at Westminster.
