Tributes have been paid to a dad who has died less than a month after helping rescue a man badly burnt in a gas explosion.
Neil Gordon was discovered hanging from a tree in woodland near Highsted Road, Sittingbourne, after going missing from his home in Regis Crescent earlier that day.
Police say they are not treating the death as suspicious.
On April 28, he raced to the rescue of Alasdair Gray who suffered severe burns after his house in Recreation Way, Kemsley, exploded.
He helped a badly burnt Mr Gray away from the house and gave him first aid until the ambulance crews arrived.
Speaking to the Sittingbourne Messenger at the time, Mr Gordon said: “I ran straight over and saw the man running out of the house, his skin was hanging off his arms and he was screaming.
“I helped him onto the road, moved his car away from the house and waited with him until the ambulance arrived.
“I didn’t have time to think about it, the man was hurt and we needed to get him help. I’m glad he’s OK.”
The 30-year-old leaves a partner of seven years, Sara.
The couple aren’t married but she has taken his name. They had two children, Konnor, five, and Harisson, two, together, as well as Sara’s daughter Alex, nine, from a previous relationship.
Mrs Gordon said: “I just feel so empty. I feel dead inside. There’s nothing inside of me, just a few screws keeping me together but that’s it.”
She added he was devastated after the house explosion, it really affected him but not to the extent he would take his own life because of it.
She said: “He hadn’t been sleeping very well lately. I knew he was upset about something and a bit down in the dumps. I told him to go upstairs and have a rest while I took the children out to give him a bit of peace and quiet.
“I gave him a kiss, said 'I love you’ and he said I love you back and that was that last I saw of him."
