Southeastern trains return to normal after snow and ice in Kent

Rail services have returned to normal after a week of travel chaos - but commuters may still suffer disruption.

The normal weekday timetable has resumed today, but there could still be short-notice cancellations.

Some trains are also expected to be busier than usual after part of Southeastern's fleet was damaged by ice and snow.

This means some services could be formed of fewer carriages for the next few days.

A joint statement from Network Rail and Southeastern said: "Network Rail’s engineering teams have checked the railway infrastructure as the snow and ice thawed, and will continue to work around the clock to keep the network open.

"Our engineering teams are doing all they can to repair the damage to trains and bring full fleet back into service as soon as possible."

Passengers may also find toilets some toilets on trains and platforms are out of use after freezing temperatures caused pipes to burst.

Anyone affected by last week's disruption is urged to claim compensation - which is double the amount for those caught up in problems between Tuesday and Friday.

The statement added: "We'd like to thank our passengers for their continued patience, and remind them to please check before they travel tomorrow using the Southeastern website, National Rail Enquiries, the free ‘On Track’ app or follow @Se_Railway for live Twitter updates."
