A pervert caught with child sex abuse images and bestiality movies has escaped a jail sentence.

Daniel Milward walked free from court yesterday with a community order and supervision for three years.

Millward will also have to attend a sex offenders’ programme.

A judge said reports about his mental state took the case “out of the ordinary”.

The 27-year-old had admitted four offences of possessing extreme pornography, involving 13 DVD movies showing sex acts with animals, and five of making indecent photographs of children.

Maidstone Crown Court heard police raided his home in College Road, Northfleet, in March last year.

Prosecutor Anne Phillips said of the child abuse images discovered on his computer, one was at the highest level of five, two were at level four and 24 at level one.

Judge Martin Joy said there were a number of features about the case that took it out of the ordinary.

“I have to tell you that in these sorts of cases ordinarily a custodial sentence appears to be inevitable,” he said.

“I am satisfied, having regard to reports about you there are circumstances that quite plainly make an immediate custodial sentence, which in the ordinary way would be richly deserved, undesirable.

“It simply would not be in the public interest for a person such as you to go to prison.”

The judge said he particularly bore in mind there was the prospect of a programme focusing on his offending bearing fruit.

He said of the community order: “After considerable hesitation, I have decided that is the appropriate penalty.”

Milward would have to attend 80 sessions of a programme covering all aspects of sexual offending.

A sexual offences prevention order was imposed indefinitely, banning Milward from unsupervised access to children, and his name will appear on the sex offenders’ register for five years.
