HUNDREDS of thousands of counterfeit euros were discovered at a house in Minster, Sheppey, by the National Crime Squad who arrested a man and a woman, both aged 30.

Police raided the house and another home in Eastchurch on Wednesday afternoon (March 31).

The squad discovered mainly counterfeit fifty euro notes and a small quantity of English fifty pound notes. They also found computers, paper, hot foil and a hot foil machine.

The total face value of the euro notes is estimated at 250,000 euros, but detectives are still in the process of counting. They say the quality of the notes is very good.

The operation, codenamed Bardsea, was carried out by the Northfleet branch of the Crime Squad after an eight month investigation with support from the National Criminal Intelligence Service.

The man and woman are being questioned at a police station in Kent.
