Engineers are working to restore electricity supplies to hundreds of homes in East Kent.

A fault on an underground cable initially interrupted supplies to 3,200 homes in the St Michael's Road area of Canterbury, just before 3pm this afternoon.

Engineers from power company EDF managed to reconnect the majority of their customers but at 4.30pm 557 homes were still without electricity.

A spokesman for EDF said: "We appreciate how difficult it is being without electricity and would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused."
