Former wedding venue Little Silver Country Hotel in St Michael’s, Tenterden, up for sale

A countryside wedding venue which left many couples devastated when it cancelled bookings as it plunged into administration is now on the market.

The Little Silver Country Hotel in St Michael’s, near Tenterden, is set to be sold for a cut-rate price as efforts are made to pay back creditors.

Bosses at Little Silver dramatically cancelled all events at the venue in February after suffering financial hardship, but many were left unimpressed after learning about the news on social media.

It meant scores of soon-to-be-weds were left thousands of pounds out of pocket, and with just months to try and organise alternative arrangements.

Ashleigh Pritchard, 28, and her partner, Jamie Bolton, 32, admitted they were beyond gutted by the cancellation – which came just five months before their special day.

The Rainham pair told KentOnline in February: "All our money has been put into Little Silver and now it's a waiting game to even see if we can get our money back."

The hotel, which sits just off the A28, has 16 boutique-style bedrooms and event space for up to 120 guests.

Offers are invited for the property, with Watling Real Estate choosing not to present a valuation of the venue.

However, it is understood the sale will likely come to the tune of seven figures.

Prices for a dream wedding ranged from £6,999 for a wedding between October and April to as much as £10,950 between May and September.

Named after a village in Devon, it was originally a country house built in 1935 before being converted into a hotel by its first owners - Dorothy Lawson and Rosemary Frith - in 1986.

The site was then bought by Olly and Christine Johnston in 2000, who built up the venue’s standing on travel website TripAdvisor by embarking on a programme of improvements, including an extension and bridal suite.

When the pair retired, the hotel was purchased by former Canterbury guest house owners David and Elaine Kemp in 2019.

Both had held jobs at Little Silver almost three decades prior.

David, a qualified chartered surveyor, worked behind the bar in the 1990s, while wife Elaine supported the hospitality team.

However, the Johnstons, who resigned as directors in 2019, were listed as the applicants for the notice to appoint administrators.
