Met Office issues yellow wind warning for Kent

Brace yourselves, it's going to be a windy weekend.

The Met Office has announced a yellow wind weather warning in Kent for Saturday, along with the large majority of England.

This comes less than two weeks after the county was hit with a heatwave and then large lightening thunderstorms.

Strong winds are expected to cause some disruption, particularly during Saturday daytime.

Some short term loss of power is possible.

Be careful on the seafront, as it is likely coastal communities could see large waves or spray.

There may be delays on exposed routes and bridges, especially for larger vehicles.

Bus, train and plane journeys could also take longer, with a chance of fallen trees.

The Met Office says gales are the most common cause of damage and disruption in the UK.

Between 1962 and 1995, 184 people were killed by building failures due to wind.

To keep safe, the weather company has some helpful advice:

  • Stay indoors as much as possible
  • Try not to walk or stand near buildings or trees, and park vehicles away from anything which may be blown down
  • Take care when driving on exposes routes such as bridges and find alternative routes if possible
  • If chimney stacks are tall or in poor condition, move beds away from areas directly below them
  • Do not try to repair damage while the storm is still happening
  • If you're planning to fly, check for delays or cancellations before leaving
  • After the storm, be careful not to touch any electrical cables including telephone wires which have been blown down or are still hanging
  • Make sure any vulnerable neighbours or relatives are safe and help them make arrangements for repairs
