Woman in dock on murder bid charge

A 34-year-old woman appeared in court today accused of attempted murder following a stabbing.

Jane May Sargeant, of Corkwell Street, Chatham, is charged with attempting to kill Sally-Anne Jemmett at a terraced flat in Brook Road, Faversham. Sargeant was arrested at about 1.30am on New Year's Day.

The victim suffered serious stab injuries and was at first described by police as "very poorly''. She has since been transferred from intensive care to another ward at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

Sargeant appeared before Sittingbourne magistrates who remanded her on bail to appear before Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, January 14, for a preliminary hearing.
