A woman has been seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash on the A21 at Pembury this morning.

Police say a blue Saab was travelling from Tunbridge Wells towards Tonbridge when it collided with a silver Nissan and silver Rover travelling in the opposite direction on Castle Hill at 7.35am.

The driver of the Nissan Micra, a 50-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries. She is now in Kings Hospital, London, where her condition is described as serious but stable.

The driver of Saab, 58-year-old woman, suffered whiplash injuries and is being treated at Pembury hospital, while the driver of the Rover, a 54-year-old woman, was in shock but otherwise fine.

All the women are believed to be local and were on their way to work at the time.

The road was closed in both directions until 12.45pm, causing long delays in and around Tunbridge Wells.

Police are keen to trace a driver who was in a very minor collision with the Saab prior to the three-vehicle collision.

It is understood that following minor contact, the driver of the Saab and other vehicle both stopped and assessed the damage. As no visible damage was apparent, the drivers went on their way, and shortly after this the more serious crash occurred.

Witnesses should call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit witness appeal line on 01622 798538.
