Two field fires in Ashford as temperatures continue to rise amid another heatwave

Two more field blazes wrecked crops as Kent heads towards a drought.

Yesterday at around 5.14pm a a fire broke out on land off Swan Lane, Little Chart in Ashford.

Crews arrived with four engines and worked to create fire breaks to prevent any more spread.

They then used a series of high pressure hose jets to tackle the blaze and by 7.42pm the flames were out.

Earlier, just before 11am a field near Snargate Road in Appledore caught light, with the blaze spreading across a hectare of land.

A bulk water carrier and five engines attended this incident where hose reel jets were also used to extinguish the blaze. It was out by midday.

No casualties were recorded and the causes of both remain unknown.
