A 23-year-old mother has been charged with the manslaughter of her toddler son.

Kelly Tugwell, of Gorse Avenue, Weedswood, Chatham, is also accused of cruelty to 19-month-old Robert Williams.

Robert died on Sunday, August 1. Paramedics were called to a house in Chatham at around 9am and tried to resuscitate the boy but he was pronounced dead on arrival at Medway Maritime Hospital.

A post mortem examination took place that day but failed to reveal the cause of death. Police investigations have since been continuing.

Tugwell has been bailed to appear in court at a future date.
