Athletics club loses leading lights

KIRSTY MORRISON, the Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist has decided to quit newly-formed Medway & Maidstone AC. Morrison, from Walderslade, has opted to join top London club Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers next season.

Another blow for Medway & Maidstone comes with the news that one of their most promising youngsters is also moving on. Chatham's Chris Gearing, the English Schools shot putt champion, has also made the switch to the capital to link-up with Belgrave Harriers.

These were the only resignations received by the new club, following the merger of Medway AC and Maidstone & Rochester AC last month.

A club spokesman said they would miss the services of both these fine athletes, but wished them well in their future sporting careers.
