MEDWAY & MAIDSTONE AC won two team categories in the annual Tom Joyce Road Relays hosted by the club at Rochester Airport (Alan Newman writes).

Race organiser Graeme Saker set the fastest M40 split of 12 min 55 sec and a winning lead for Medway and Maidstone in the first leg of the masters event. Dave Morris, Alan Newman and Andy Alison completed the job for victory by 78 seconds over Blackheath Harriers with Tonbridge AC in third place.

Invicta East Kent were clear winners of the M60 race from Sevenoaks AC and Cambridge Harriers.

A poorly supported women’s relay resulted in prizes for both teams entered. A composite Invicta/Paddock Wood team was fastest but was awarded the masters prize as Janice Moorekite, Joanne Jenkins and Sue James are all age qualified.

The Medway and Maidstone team of Emma Harraden, Hanna Miller and Alison Passon were awarded the open team prize.

Blackheath Harriers dominated the senior men’s open race with a fit young team which included the fastest runner of the day, Michael Skinner (11.38 mins).

Medway and Maidstone fielded four teams and filled the next three places. Pat Curran, Chris Knight, Barry Royden and Gareth Williams were the most successful quartet for the home club.

Dave Harmer, Lee McMeekin, russell Slade and Geoff Baxter were the other prize winners for Medway and Maidstone in third place.
