Both Denly and Crawley have done enough to warrant a place in the 13-man squad for the Test which starts in Southampton on Wednesday.

The squad match at the end of the week involved teams captained by Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler.

Stokes will captain the England side in the absence of Joe Root, who is attending the birth of his second child.

Nine other players from the training camp will remain as Test reserves.

Root will return for the second Test at Old Trafford on July 16. The three-match series concludes at the same venue on July 24-28.

Squad for the first Test: Ben Stokes (captain), James Anderson, Jofra Archer, Dom Bess, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler (wk), Zak Crawley, Joe Denly, Ollie Pope, Dom Sibley, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
