Margate and Folkestone Invicta face an FA Cup replay at Hartsdown Park on Tuesday night after their first qualifying round tie finished goalless on Saturday.

The home side, who play a division below Gate, were indebted to a fine performance from goalkeeper Tim Roberts for keeping them in the competition for a few more days at least.

Roberts was beaten within two minutes as Luke Williams rounded him, only for the midfielder to miss the target, before John Beales volleyed wide.

At the other end, Folkestone debutant Joe Taylor was thwarted against one of his former clubs by Nikki Bull, while Josh Vincent headed over from a corner.

Roberts denied Zak Attwood and before the break, Bull needed to scramble clear a shot from Jon Pilbeam and save another close-range Vincent header.

After the restart, Anthony Riviere and Jason Prior fired narrowly wide for Margate and Liam Friend cleared a Ryan Moss effort off the line, while Attwood failed to test Roberts when well-placed.

Roberts came to the fore with a superb save to keep out a Prior backheel and he then blocked a Williams effort. Prior and Moss missed the target in a hectic finale, which saw Connor Coyne come close to winning it for Invicta with a deflected shot which crept wide with Bull beaten.
