Golfers get set to play in the dark

THE Deangate Ridge Golf & Sports Complex near Strood is preparing to host a golfing event with a difference - the competitors will be playing in the dark.

The club experimented with Night Golf recently and the trial was such a success they are set to host more of these 10-hole events over the coming months, starting on Saturday, February 9. Players of Night Golf hit specially designed balls, which allow them to follow it when it flies through the air or along the ground.

The terrain is lit up with luminous glow sticks, of different colours and sizes, to represent certain parts of the course.

General manager Steve Hillman explained: "I took part in the dummy run of Night Golf, and all I heard was laughter coming from all angles of the golf course.

"The evening is such good fun and now we are extending the course and providing free entertainment in the evening, allowing the player and visitors to have a drink and continue the laughter."
