Holmes eyes British indoor record

KELLY HOLMES: help from Jolanda Ceplak

KENT athlete Kelly Holmes will chase her second British record in less than a fortnight on Friday - with the help of track rival Jolanda Ceplak.

Ceplak will pace Holmes' attempt on the national indoor 1500m mark at the Norwich Union Grand Prix in Birmingham.

The race is scheduled just one hour after the Slovenian's own record attempt at the same meeting, where she goes for the world indoor 1,000m record.

Robert Wagner, who manages both athletes, says Ceplak was the natural choice to set the pace for Holmes' record attempt. He said: “There is no better 800m runner in Europe than Jolanda so she is ideal to pull Kelly along at the start of the race.

Wagner says that Holmes, from Hildenborough, near Tonbridge, is in the shape of her life. He added: "I expect her to run somewhere in between 4:00 and 4:05.

"Pole vaulters have always helped each other out so I see no reason why middle distance runners should not do the same.”
