Kent batsman Jordan Cox has breached Covid-19 protocols and must now self-isolate

Star batsman Jordan Cox has been excluded from Kent’s next match after a breach of the team’s Covid-19 protocols.

Cox put on a record partnership for the county side this week, hitting an unbeaten 238 himself, but has been forced to self isolate after agreeing to be photographed with young fans, in breach of social distancing policy.

The 19-year-old will now have to sit out Kent’s next Bob Willis Trophy match against Middlesex, which starts on Saturday.

Cox had his photo taken after leaving the St Lawrence ground following Kent’s stunning victory over Sussex, where he had starred with the bat.

The club say he now commence a period of self-isolation and will have to test negative before he is able to re-join the squad.

“I am very sorry that this has happened,” said Cox. “I fully understand the consequences, and I want to apologise to everyone.

“I’m gutted to be missing the next match and feel like I have let the team down.”

Director of Cricket, Paul Downton, said: “It is unfortunate for Jordan that on the back of an outstanding performance, our team medical protocols were breached.

“We take these protocols very seriously and Jordan has no choice but to go into self-isolation.”
