Clubs in the EFL are still to decide on what they will do, however, with teams in League 1 voting whether to try and complete their own domestic campaign.

The country’s top-flight have now set a date to return with games between Manchester City and Arsenal and Aston Villa and Sheffield United kicking things back off.

Premier League players resumed contact training this week. Crystal Palace have been making use of facilities at Kent Cricket's County Ground, Beckenham.

The news of a restart from the Premier League may now have a knock-on effect, with the Championship also hoping to restart.

News of the Premier League restarting might be a shot in the arm for those clubs in League 1 banging the drum to resume. They are up against many fearful of the costs.

Coronavirus testing is set to cost each club around £140,000 although Gills chairman Paul Scally suggested the Professional Footballers’ Association could pay for it.

The EFL have been conducting tests on players back in training. The latest round of tests were taken on 1,030 players and club staff over a three day period, with three individuals testing positive from two clubs.

Games will initially be played in empty stadiums, denying the lower league teams the matchday revenue which they rely on.

League 2 clubs have already agreed to stop play but a firm decision on promotion and relegation remains up in the air.

The National League have also yet to decide how to finalise places. If it’s decided on points per game then it’s likely to mean relegation for Ebbsfleet United.
