LYDDEN will reverberate to the sound of classic racing cars this weekend as the circuit's annual Classic Clash takes place on Saturday.

The British Automobile Racing Club will combine with the Classic Touring Car Racing Club and the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club to provide a full programme of 11 races for a meeting which is one of the highlights of the circuit's motor racing season.

The BARC (SE) is looking after the 1600 Classic Formula Fords, the Universal Racing Services Classic FF2000 event and the Toyo Tyres Modified Production Saloons race.

The latter should be the most open round for years since the chief contenders, Robyn Woodger and Gerry Cain, wrecked their Rovers when they collided recently at Brands Hatch.

Racing saloons from the 1960s and 70s take centre stage when the CTCRC (formerly the Classic Saloon Car Club) promotes its championship rounds.

The Classic and Historic race will feature a wide variety of machines from Morris Minors and Ford Anglias to Ford Mustangs and Jaguars.

The Post-Historics include Chevrolets, Lotus-Cortinas, Triumph Dolomite Sprints and Ford Escorts.

The Group One race sees Jaguars and Mazdas battling Ford Capris and Rover Vitesses.

The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club put on some stunning races at this event last year.

Once again there will be rounds of the XJS Challenge, the ITD XK Classics, the Proteus Engineering Revival (mainly C-Types and D-Types) and the Classicats series.

The action starts on Saturday with practice at 9am, followed by the first race at 1pm.

Admission is £8 (£6 for senior citizens). Entry is free for accompanied children under 15.
