Simon Royce received the 2007/08 Player of the Year award at the end of season ceremony at Priestfield on Saturday night.

Gillingham fans voted the goalkeeper as the club’s star player for the season ahead of Simon King, in second and last year’s winner Andrew Crofts, in third.

Royce said: “I’m well pleased with the award and I’m delighted that I’ve got a personal accolade but obviously the most important thing to be thinking about is the game coming up against Leeds.”

Crofts’ volleyed goal at Brighton at the start of March was voted as the goal of the season, while supporters voted for King as Away Player of the Year. Central defender King was also winner of the Players’ Player of the Year.
