Runners hit the road for charity

THANET Roadrunners AC are to hold a 5km Charity Fun Run at Palm Bay on Saturday, May 24, starting 2.30pm.

The run will follow a traffic-free course along the cliff-top path from the old aquarium site to Foreness and back.

It is modelled on the popular Race For Life women’s races that are held around the country throughout the summer and is open to everyone, male or female, of all ages.

The run has attracted sponsorship from Saga, Pfizer, Blaze Neon, Hargreaves Sports and Thanet District Council , and all proceeds will go to the Pilgrims Hospice at Margate.

“A number of local people have contacted us suggesting that we stage this event,” said Phil Pittock of Thanet Roadrunners.

“Most people are capable of running or walking 5km and the event will be a good opportunity for local people to get some exercise, have some fun and raise some money for a good cause.

“We are expecting more than 1,000 runners and we hope that this event will become an annual one and an exciting addition to Thanet's sporting calendar.”

The entry fee for the run is £5 and forms are available from schools, major employers, libraries, sports centres and Thanet District Council offices.

Entry forms are also available from the Thanet Roadrunners’ website at www.thanetroadrunners.freeserve.co.uk
