Sisters shine, but it's Ashford's day

LITTLESTONE star athlete Lisa Dobriskey shrugged off the spectre of injury to set two championship bests at the Kent track and field championships at Crystal Palace over the weekend. She was just delighted to be running freely again after a hip problem but physiotherapy has helped and she responded with a great performance to win the 800m and 1500m titles.

The only disappointment was not making the World Junior trials qualifying times. She clocked a new 800m best of 2:07.9 and also a 1500m best of 4:22.6. The qualifying time of 2:06.5 and 4:18 will be her next big target when she does the Southerns hoping to make the trials at the end of June with the target of a place in Jamaica in July.

Lisa's sister Sarah in shining in the hammer throw and added another family gold winning the Kent title with a throw of 40m16. But it was another outstanding day for the Ashford club with 18 golds, 11 silver and 13 bronze medals. James Bridge had an excellent championships fifth in the senior men's final but taking golds in the Under-10 sprint double of 100m and 200m. And a surprise double gold went to Jon Brisley winning the Under-15 800m where he beat 1500m champion Steven Munn and carved five seconds off his personal best with 2:07.8

Gold also came in the 400m where he edged out teammate Ross Owen by .3 of a second. Luke Hedges shone with gold in the 200m and bronze in the 90m hurdles while Owen made up for another silver in the long jump by taking gold in the triple jump with teammate Lee Quigley in bronze. Talented Under-17 runner Andrew Welch from Folkestone also had a good day taking the silver in his 800m race in 2:03.0 and bronze in the 1500 with 4:17.7.
