All the latest from Crayford Greyhound Track

Saturday evening was a good night for trainer Steve Gammon as his top dog Pony Bride landed the £500 winners prize in the Betdaq Stayers Trophy final.

As I have stated here before, you are unlikely to ever get a big price for Pony Bride but the dog wins here regularly and will always repay your support.

The evening was rounded of for the Gammon kennel when Five Florins won the first heat in the latest of the Owners Bonus Series races for grade S2 greyhounds over 540m.

The final is this Saturday night and it would appear that Five Florins already has the race in the bag if he can repeat his heat win time of 33.92secs.

The dog has undoubtedly got ability but his previous eight races here largely showed that he was missing his break early on and had as a result incurred plenty of traffic problems during his races.

This latest effort saw the dog blast out of the traps recording a fast 13.04secs sectional time over the first 160m and his speed was maintained throughout as he crossed the line 13 lengths clear.

The question, of course, now has to be will he do the same thing on Saturday night? If he fluffs his lines, he will get beaten, so who are the main threats.

Deepindebt won the second heat last weekend in a time of 34.27 and while the dog is still progressing, she has not been able to break the 34-second barrier.

What she does have in her favour is consistently fast sectionals, having recorded 12.99 twice and a 13.09 in her last three runs.
Furthermore, should Five Florins not have things go his way, Deepindebt has the win times in her armoury if gaining that all-important early advantage.
I was somewhat surprised at Juan Dog not winning his heat. The race favourite was ultimately beaten by Deepindebt but only by the slender margin of one length although he appeared to have no excuses in the race finishing strongly as is usually the case.
Juan Dog has experience
on his side but is another who has never managed to break the magic 34-second barrier.
Finding winners is never easy and on this occasion I suggest that the prudent bet may be a trio always on Five Florins, Deepindebt and Juan Dog to finish 1-2-3 in any order.
