FA Cup extra preliminary round round-up, with wins for Tunbridge Wells, Sheppey United, Corinthian, Chatham and Deal Town

A stoppage-time penalty winner sent Tunbridge Wells through to the next round of the FA Cup.

Competitive football action returned to Kent for the first time on Tuesday night following the premature end of the 2019/20 season because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Wells left it late to win their extra preliminary round tie against Erith Town, with Brett Ince netting the only goal of the game.

Winning boss Richard Styles tweeted: “Tuesday nights under the lights don’t come much better.

“Boys were fantastic and put a shift in to get us into the next round. Great to hear our fans roar us home once again too.”

Corinthian left it late in their game against Sheerwater, scoring twice in the last 10 minutes to secure their place in the next round.

Trailing after an hour, Louie Clarke levelled the match late on before George Snelling secured the turnaround with a goal a minute from time.

Summer signing Warren Mfula scored the winner for Sheppey United in their match against Sutton Athletic.

Mfula, making his competitive debut for the Ites, struck on 60 minutes and it proved to be the only goal of the game, watched by 189 fans at the Total Power Stadium.

There was an eight-goal thriller at Honey Lane as Bearsted let slip a two-goal advantage to lose 5-3 against Peacehaven.

Andy Irvine had given the Bears a great start, putting them ahead inside two minutes, and he was there again just before the break to cancel out Cameron Wiltshire’s effort for the visitors.

Tom Penfold put the home side 3-1 up from distance but Peacehaven staged a remarkable comeback, scoring four goals in nine minutes.

A missed penalty late on ended hopes of Bearsted coming back into the tie.

Chatham Town ran out 2-0 winners at East Preston.

Matt Bodkin opened the scoring midway through the first half when he scored from a Luke Rooney corner. Another Rooney set-piece led to their second which was nodded in by Reece Butler.

Kennington’s first involvement in the FA Cup ended in a 1-0 defeat infront of a sell-out crowd at Homelands against Erith & Belvedere.

Ton had numerous chances but were up against a keeper in inspired form, Rilwan Anibabe making numerous saves including one to deny Gary Clarke from the penalty spot.

Malik Nosike’s 20th minute goal was the difference in the end.

Tweeting afterwards, Ton boss Dan Scorer wrote: “Incredible support tonight and a brilliant performance from all of the boys. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

“Another great experience and memories that will be remembered. Thank you to everyone that came out to show their support!”

Ben Cardwell was the hat-trick hero for Deal Town as they put in a fantastic performance to come away from Knaphill 4-0 winners.

Hoops’ goalkeeper James Tonkin made an early penalty save for Deal - with many of their players arriving just before kick-off - and the game remained scoreless at the break.

Luke Eldridge broke the deadlock on 58 minutes before Cardwell got the first of his three shortly after. He completed his treble late on to seal the win for Derek Hares’ team.

K Sports’ match at home to Steynings Town was abandoned late in the second half because of a nasty injury, which required an ambulance to attend. The visitors were leading 2-0.

Lordswood's new signing Hicham Akhazzan was one of their goalscorers in a 3-2 home loss against Hanworth Villa. Chandler Kasai scored in the first half.

Lords had Jason Perry sent off with 20 minutes left while the visitors missed the chance to score a fourth, hitting the woodwork from the penalty spot in stoppage-time.

A crowd of 232 were at Foxbury Avenue as Glebe were beaten 3-1 by Whyteleafe. Charlie MacDonald got their consolation. The club confirmed it was a record attendance for a competitive match at their home ground, which currently has a restricted capacity of 300.

AFC Croydon Athletic lost 3-0 at home to Sutton Common Rovers, conceding two second half penalties after going behind to a 23rd minute goal.

There were three goals in the last 10 minutes as Welling Town lost 3-1 at Abbey Rangers. The hosts were ahead in the first minute and made it 3-0 with two goals late on, before Alex Nelson struck in the 89th minute for Town.
