Myles Weston's good form for Gillingham was the reason he started against Notts County rather than Cody McDonald

Myles Weston was Peter Taylor’s preferred choice against Notts County on Tuesday night in favour of Cody McDonald.

Interim boss Taylor has switched formation, with just one striker instead of two, and that has led to an upturn in fortunes for Weston.

Taylor explained the simple reasoning behind McDonald’s exclusion.

"Myles came on the pitch Saturday (against Preston) and did better than Cody," said the Gills boss.

"Cody has accepted the decision and I think it would have been very harsh on Myles had he not started (on Tuesday) because he looked a better right-winger on the day than what Cody was.

"Cody has been very professional about it and he will work extremely hard to get back in the team."
