Myles Weston could miss the start of Gillingham’s season next week.

The forward is rated as “50-50” to feature in eight days’ time when the Gills kick-off their League 1 campaign at home to Colchester.

Weston has missed all three games against higher-league opposition and looks set to be out again on Saturday when the Gills head to Woking for their latest pre-season work-out.

His only appearances in pre-season so far came against Ashford United and Bromley, where he played half a game in each.

Allen said: “Obviously, I want him fit for the first three games because he wins games.

“He has been in fantastic form at the training ground. He was electric in France (during the training camp) and it (his hamstring) has just got a bit tight. He hasn’t pulled it, it’s not a tear, he’s not strained it, it’s just tight. I would say he is 50-50 for the start of the season.

“We have to make sure it is right.”
